My name is Monika Tolmie. I am originally from Poland, and I live in London, UK, with my husband Bill. I have long been interested in the human psyche, our need for others and our connection with God. When I was younger, I explored these themes being a book worm, and later through the studies and roles I chose.
I graduated in literature in Poland, and then in psychology, mental health nursing and family therapy respectively in the UK. I worked with diverse groups of people, including those with learning disabilities, with the homeless, and with bereaved families. Since 2011, I’ve been working in the NHS, as a mental health nurse and a family therapist, across adult and adolescent mental health services.
I was raised and I practise as a Catholic Christian. I have had a sense of God’s presence in my life since at least my teenage years, and I pursued it through exploring charismatic, contemplative and Ignatian spirituality. My faith and life experiences led me to to be a volunteer chaplain in the local hospital for many years.
